Temporary Auditory - Threshold Shifts Induced

چکیده
Four divers were exposed successively for ten minute periods to pure tones of 5600, 1400, and 700 hertz (Hz) (in that order) in air at 100 decibels above 20 raicropascal and in water at various sound pressure levels between 125 and 150 decibels above 20 micropascal. Divers incurred moderate temporary auditory-threshold shifts (TTS) from all exposures. Equivalent amounts of TTS are produced in water as in air by the same sound intensity levels (SIL) at 700 Hz, by 5 to 15 dB greater SIL in water at 1400 Hz, and by smaller SILs in water at 5600 Hz.

The Effect of Celecoxib, a Cyclooxygenase-2 Inhibitor on Noise- Induced Hearing Loss
Objective(s): Noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) is the major cause of acquired hearing loss. Celecoxib, a cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor, is a non- steroidal anti- inflammatory drug (NSAID) with known antioxidant and antineoplastic activity. Therefore, we monitored the extent of temporary noise- induced threshold shifts (TTS) and cochlear damage caused by high level 4- kHz noise exposure t...

Behavioral psychophysical techniques were used to evaluate the residual effects of underwater noise on the hearing sensitivity of three pinnipeds: a California sea lion (Zalophus californianus), a harbor seal (Phoca vitulina), and a northern elephant seal (Mirounga angustirostris). Temporary threshold shift (TTS), defined as the difference between auditory thresholds obtained before and after n...
متن کاملThe dissimilar time course of temporary threshold shifts and reduction of inhibition in the inferior colliculus following intense sound exposure
Excessive noise exposure is known to produce an auditory threshold shift, which can be permanent or transient in nature. Recent studies showed that noise-induced temporary threshold shifts are associated with loss of synaptic connections to the inner hair cells and with cochlear nerve degeneration, which is reflected in a decreased amplitude of wave I of the auditory brainstem response (ABR). T...

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS The purpose of this study was to investigate possible preventive effects of anti-intercellular adhesion molecule-1 antibody (anti-ICAM-1 Ab) on noise-induced cochlear damage as assessed by changes in auditory thresholds and cochlear blood flow. STUDY DESIGN A controlled animal study. Pretreated rats with anti-ICAM-1 Ab or saline control, followed with exposure to 72 cont...
